Agostino Veroni is a moody painter. His varied palette reflects his sensations that he so elegantly expresses with his thick fleshy stokes of oil paints on fine brand canvases.  His sensations come from hours and days of painting outdoors onsite like many painters from his home town of Livorno where he lives with his wife and two children.  But Agostino Veroni has brought the experience of the artist and the viewer to the highest level of expression.

Agostino Veroni

He manages to capture the light and sensations of a local outdoor Italian market. One can almost hear the vendors voicing their best prices and taste the fresh Italian fruit on the temporary tables of the stalls.  If he is painting in the Tuscan country side, his palette feels the seasonal light that makes Italy so desirable.  Spring almond trees in blossom and bougainvillea alternate with fields of bright sunflowers or cadmium red poppies or with autumn scenes of the legendary grape harvest. His expressively intense brushstrokes oblige us to experience the real Italy that only a true born Italian artist can have the luck to feel.

His thickly expressive works echo the transparent turquoise waters of Sardinia on the Costa Smeralda during the bright days of summer and the temperamental Tyrrhenian Sea of Livorno with its bestial winter Libeccio wind that knocks trees down and makes fishing dangerous and outdoor painting only for the passionate like he, Agostino Veroni. His summer beach scenes of cheery umbrellas and families vacationing are another aspect of his frame of mind, an atmosphere of Italian life so dear to us.

One cannot say that Veroni does not feel what he paints. His variety of subjects and a palette so diverse make us believe that we are there in real life experiencing Italy through the thick paint that he chooses to apply according to his sensations whether it is a sunset in Livorno’s industrial port with tugboats on the horizon or if it is a family in summer gear on the beach or a yellow field of Tuscan grain maturing.
