Painting with Gene Baldini in Lerici and the Cinque Terre

You choose your dates, these workshops are available from April to October based upon availability

Gene suggests a week long itinerary but you may want to paint for only a few days, a minimum of 2 days and 3 nights is required: see a possible week long itinerary

Gene Baldini offers the following program:

The Ligurian coast, famous for its sparkling light, soft color, temperate climate and exquisite beauty has for centuries enjoyed a special place in the hearts of artists, writers and poets. We would like to extend our enthusiasm for this “terra e mare” by offering on site painting workshops based upon your individual requests. Whether you are an experienced artist or a beginner just wanting a painting holiday our program is designed to be informative and accommodating. We provide the opportunity for artists to work at special places where man, land and sea meet harmoniously in great sensuous beauty.

In order to guarantee maximum contact hours and a personalized approach; the workshop is limited to 15 participants.

Daily sessions are divided in two. In the morning we meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for general lessons and demonstrations common to “alla prima” painting. The afternoons between 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. are set aside for more individual encounters, problems and enthusiasms.

The evenings include dinner on the terrazza overlooking the “Golfo dei Poeti”, general socializing, discussions of the day's activities or just strolls along the port.

 

Regarding our time frame, water based materials such as acrylic, gauche or watercolor paint are strongly suggested. Participants are urged to bring their own supplies. However for those who wish, materials can be provided at an additional cost .*

The week long program includes the following :

1.Mini bus service from the trains to the hotel.

2. An introductory walking tour, orientation and cocktails at Hotel Europa at Lerici.

3.A single occupancy room with a bath, a large buffet breakfast at the Hotel Europa and dinner in the evenings on the terrazza at the Doria hotel. Spouses and significant others are welcome and a room with a sea view can be had. **

3. Mini lectures on the Machiaioli and pre-French Impressionist painters.

4. A slide presentation by Gene Baldini.

5. On site lessons in “alla prima” techniques of painting amounting to 6 contact hrs per day.

6. Painting excursions to Monterosso at Le Cinque Terre, Tellaro & Portovenere ***

7. A small concluding exhibition of our efforts at the Hotel Europa.

The workshops with Gene can be tailored to your needs but basicly:

  1. No minimum number of participants is required, maximum number is 15.
  2. Minimum of time: 2 days
  3. Contact hours: 5 hours per day
  4. Gene requires a daily rate of 250.00 euro for his instruction
  5. art supplies furnished is an additional 50 euro per person
  6. all expenses for travel, food, accomodation, insurance, shopping, etc... are not included in Gene's daily rate.

    Room rates for 2006:
    Garden View.......single 80 euro per night
    double 100 euro per night
    Sea View......... single 105 euro per night
    double 130 euro per night

    * Minimum stay 3 nights. Buffet breakfast and mini bus transport from
    the train station at La Spezia or Sarzana included in the price.
    Dinner 22 euro excluding beverages.

 

Please Note: Travel arrangements both to and from Italy as well as any additional travel are the responsibility of the participants.

I. Arrival at La Spezia or Sarzana (Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m.) / Hotel mini bus transportation from the train station to Hotel Europa at Lerici.

Lessons 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. At Hotel Europa

I. “ Getting Started” A discourse on the Macchiaioli and pre-French Impressionist painters.

II. “Frames & Format” Technical issues helpful to “plein air” drawing & painting

III. “Copy Work” Application of the techniques using photos of central Lerici.

IV. Lunch & Afternoon at Leisure *

Lessons: 4:30 – 6:30 Recap & Individual Consultation

VI. Dinner -8:30 at the Hotel Doria

I. Painting with local color. A short discourse on the importance of the tonal structure of color.

I. 9:30 A.M. Boat trip to Le Cinque Terre for an all day painting excursion at Monterossa .
