Angie Brooksby
Angie Elizabeth Brooksby was born in USA in 1965. She moved to Florence in 1986 after completing a BFA in sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. In the USA she studied with figurative sculptor John Shan, the son of realist painter Ben Shan; Fulbright scholar Gene Baldini and Margaret Dowell, Ph. D.

While living in Italy for 21 years she has fallen in love with Italian cuisine. Italian cuisine has become an important element in her paintings. She chooses to celebrate wine, olive oil and cheese in long canvases that are unreal tables adorned with archaic Tuscan Proverbs and names of wine. Her cuisine paintings have been described as an unusual approach to pop art. She likes to think of them as reminiscent of early Greek-Roman painting in particular xenia. Vetruvius said that xenia paintings were installed into the walls od ancient Roman villas as a welcoming to ones guests.

Angie Brooksby recently discovered the acrylic medium. She has a new approach to the ever magnificent Tuscan landscape, specifically the Chianti region. Although she loves to paint Italian food, Tuscany is a magnet for artists and Angie can paint it with her eyes closed. She loves to roam the windy roads near Castellina on her scooter sketching and photographing or when she can she paints from life. These new acrylic paintings are signed FIGE'. Fige' is a pet name that her ex-husband gave her after la bella figuera of the classic novel I Promessi Sposi by Manzoni.

In January 2007 she moved to Paris after 21 years of living in Florence and Tuscany because she fell in love with a french scientist she dated in her home town in the US 20 years ealier. She has an Atelier on Ivry in an old factory with about 50 other artists from all over the world. Currently she is painting Paris

Brooksby has shown her paintings in throughout Italy, Germany and the USA and now Paris. Her paintings are in corporate and private collections wordwide.
